We have decided to make some changes to our Home Learning in an attempt to make it a little more user friendly. We were aware that we were sending out lots of information, and that some parents and children were feeling a little bombarded, and didn't know where to start. We have therefore put together a single 1 page document for each class with suggestions of activities the children can try. This can be downloaded below.
Wednesday 22nd April
Our Learning Packs contain some of the many resources that we post on to our Facebook Page. This weeks Learning Packs are different for each year. They can be downloaded using the links below, or collected from the Shop.
Monday 20th April
Normally today would be the first day back at school after the Easter break, but today is not normal!
We have had conversations with some parents who are worried that their child might be going to fall behind. Please don’t worry about your child falling behind, every child is different, and the vast majority will be no further ‘behind’ than the rest of the class, so won’t in effect be ‘behind’ at all. When we return we will assess all the children and start again from the level they are at. This is nothing new or challenging for us.
What will be much harder for us to deal with, is if your child gets used to not having to do any work, or only doing it when they want to. We know that some of our students don’t like writing and used to send a lot of time every day trying to avoid it. If they don’t do any writing whilst we are off, this will be even harder for us when we return. We have said in the past that the most important thing is to spend time as a family and to share any worries. We still stand by this.
We would suggest that as a new term starts, that you as a family develop a routine if you haven’t already done so. This does not need to be a strict regimented routine with everything timed to the nearest minute, but a plan of what needs to be done and roughly when. An example could be:
Before 9.00am - get up, get dressed, have breakfast.
9.00am - 10.00am - School session 1, to include some reading and writing
10.00am - 10.30am - break
10.30am - 11.30am - School Session 2, to include some maths
11.30am - 12.00pm - Free Choice time
12.00 - 1.30 - Lunch time
1.30 - 3.00 - School Session 3 - Fun School! This could be creative work, cooking, gardening, house work (Learning how to wash up, use the vacuum cleaner, use the washing machine) etc.
3.00 - 4.00 - Go for a family walk
The length and time of the sessions, and what you do in each can be changed to suit you and your child, but what is important is that the children don’t get into the habit of not doing any written work and only doing something when they want to. This habit will be very difficult for us to break if we are off for a long time.
If you have any questions, please just ask.
Week Commencing 13th April
We are still officially in the Easter Holidays. If your child would like some work to do we have put together another Learning Pack. This contains activities that can be accessed by children of all ages.
Our main activity this week is for the children to either write a letter to say ‘Thank You’ to a key worker or make a ‘Thank You’ card. The completed card or letter can either be scanned / photographed and e-mailed to us, or the original can be left in the wooden Milk Box outside school. We will then arrange to print and post these to key workers. If you’re child wants to send it to a particular company or individual please ask them to write this on the card. If not we will pick one for them. This activity is voluntary, if your child does not want to take part that is fine.
The learning pack can be downloaded from below, or picked up from Jury Shop. We have included in it some templates for Thank You cards if your child chooses to take part in this activity.
It is the Easter Holidays, so the children would normally be on holiday having fun. This year is a little different and we are aware that some children will still want some activities to do. We have therefore put together an Easter Learning Pack, which can be downloaded below. The same pack can be used by all children, although some activities are better suited to the older or younger children.
We hope to have paper copies of these files available in Jury Shop for you to pick up as well. If your child completes the Time Capsule activity we would love a copy of it so that we can add it to the School History. Please either send us a scan or photo, or send it in to school when we return. Thank you.
The most important thing over the next few weeks is the health and well being of you and your family. Learning takes a distant second place to this. Please don't put pressure on yourself or your children to do too much too soon. This type of schooling is new to all of us, teachers, pupils and parents alike, we will make mistakes, things won't go quite as we planned, but together we will get there, and soon all be back in school looking back on this period of our lives.
Everywhere you look online there are ideas and suggestions for what to do with your child, and if you did all of them you and your child would be doing school work 24 hours a day. We don't want to overwhelm you so will add a few new ideas and links every few days. We will develop a page for each of the main areas to help you find an activity that you and your child would like to do.
Please find below links to download our latest learning packs. Most of the files can already be found either on this website or in your Childs Google Classroom. The quality with this file is not as good as we would like, as it is a scan of the print outs.
