Welcome to our Community Library
Our new Community Library, situated in Jurby School, is now open. Over the last few months a small team of teachers and parents have transformed an old class room in to a wonderful new Library. There are currently over 3,000 children’s books in stock, with a combined value of over £10,000, all ready for your child to read.
We would love this to be used by all members of our Community, both young and old, so please do come along and have a look.
You can view all the books we have in stock by going to https://u015837.microlibrarian.net
The books in our Library have been arranged in to three main groups, young children’s fiction, older children’s fiction and fact books. They have then been sub divided into topics and arranged in baskets, so that you can easily find books that you will enjoy. Over time we would like to add a fourth section of books for adults, but at the moment these are quite thin on the ground. If you have any books that are in good condition that you would like to donate we would be most grateful.
In order to keep the Library looking at its best we have a few simple rules that we are asking everybody who uses it to follow.
- No Food or Drink is to be consumed in the Library.
- Please respect the books. If you take a book off a shelf to look at please put it back the right way round and in the same place.
- Please walk at all times.
- Please respect the cushions and bean bags. They are for sitting on, nothing else!
- Quiet indoor voices should be used at all times.
Questions and Answers
How many books can my child borrow at once?
Every child can borrow a maximum of 2 books at a time.
How long can they borrow them for?
Books will be loaned out for 2 weeks. They can of course re-new their books if they have not finished them.
What happens if a book is returned late? Will my child have to pay a fine?
No, we will not be fining children for the late return of books, but they will be unable to borrow any further books until they return the ones they already have. If a child has overdue books they will be reminded by their teacher to bring them back.
What if my child loses a book or if it gets damaged?
If a book is lost, or badly damaged (torn pages, scribbled in, liquid spilt on it etc) we will ask you to replace the book. We will consider a book to be lost if it is more than a month overdue.
When will my child be able to borrow and return books?
Please see the timetable below.
I have a pre-school child, can they borrow some books?
There are three sessions a week specifically for the community to come and borrow books. In addition our Nursery will also have a slot of their own.
Do you have any books that will appeal to adults?
We are wanting to build up a collection of books that adults can borrow, and would welcome any donations of books in good condition that people would care to make.
I would like to join. How do I do this?
Please pop into the school office any time between 8.30am and 1.00pm and ask for a membership form, or down load one using the link below. It is free to join.
