Sports Day

Next Wednesday, 2nd June is Sports Day. We are aiming to start as close to 1.15pm as possible, and should be finished by 3.30pm. The afternoon will start off with some Field Events, where the children will move between 3 different activities in their houses. The second half will consist of track events. Some of the track events will be mixed, and others single sex, depending upon the number of girls and boys in each year group or class.

We hope to also have time for a pre school race and a parents’ race.

The children will need to wear their normal PE Kit, including a t-shirt in their house colour. All of this should already be in school. They will also need to make sure they have with them a water bottle, a sun hat and sun cream, and a warm top to put on between races if it is chilly.

In the event of bad weather a decision to postpone will be made by 11.30am and posted on our Facebook page and sent out via Text. Please try to avoid ringing the school to enquire. The reserve date is the next day, Thursday 3rd June.

Thursday 3rd June

Thursday 3rd June is the last day of this half term. School is not open to pupils on Friday 4th June.

Traditionally the last day of each half term is a non uniform day. As we missed out on World Book Day this year, and we are aware that some parents bought costumes in advance of lockdown, we are holding a ‘mini’ World Book Day on Thursday. If children have a costume that they want to wear, they may do so. If they don’t have a costume, they can simply wear non uniform. Please do not go to any expense to buy or make a costume, this is simply an opportunity to try and ensure that those people who bought a costume in advance can make use of it. During the day the teachers will share some of their favourite stories with the children, and if your child has a favourite book that they would like to bring in and share with a friend they can do so.

There will be no charge for this non uniform day.

Lunch for the next half term will be £68.15

Cheques for Lunch should be made payable to ‘IOM Government’

Snack and Cookery for Class 1 will be £10 and cheques should be made payable to Jurby School

End of Term Fun Day

This year we have decided rather than having an end of year trip out, to hold a Fun Day instead. We have made this decision as we feel that now the Island is in a ‘Containment’ Phase, and with the borders potentially opening up at the start of July, it may not be sensible to take all of the children to other parts of the Island. They may end up mixing with large numbers of children from other schools, as experience has shown us that many of the popular locations for end of year trips are often visited by multiple schools on the same day.

We are planning on making our Fun Day similar to a village fete, where there will be a range of activities for the children to choose from, along with a picnic lunch. More information about this day will be provided nearer the day.

The Leavers’ trip for children in Class 3 will still take place, and Mrs Cranmer is busy organising this at the moment. Again more information will be sent out shortly.

Tea-Spoons

Around 2 years ago, Government committed to reducing single use plastic, which includes plastic tea spoons. Whilst we have always tried to re-use these as much as we can, we used up our remaining stock a little while ago. When a child needs to borrow a spoon for their packed lunch, we have been giving them one of our metal ones, but we have not always got them back, and our stocks are running very low. Whilst we understand that from time to time things get forgotten, it would be a great help if you provide your own spoon. Thank you.

Music Day

Our annual Music Day is taking place on Wednesday 14th July, and will end with a performance that parents will be welcome to attend. An exact time for this will be confirmed closer to the day.
