Dear Parent’s

As I am sure you heard today the Chief Minister ordered the closure of schools for most pupils on the Isle of Man from the end of school today.

We know that parents/carers will seek to keep their children safe by keeping them at home and will follow the Government’s advice. We very much appreciate your support in this and know that, if we all work together, we have the best chance of reducing the spread of Covid-19.

The Government has asked parents to keep their children at home, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who are designated as ‘vulnerable’ or are the children of ‘essential workers’. These definitions have not changed from the previous two lockdowns, therefore if your child did not attend the hub school previously, then we would not be anticipating them attending this time. As before Grandparents are able to look after children, providing the children are dropped off and collected without adult contact.

It is important to understand that:

Schools are open only to vulnerable children and children of essential workers

Parents/carers should do all they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way that could spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

Many parents who are essential workers may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be kept safely at home should be.

The fewer children making the journey to school and the fewer children in educational settings the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

If you have no other option but to send your child please let us know by completing the form that is available at

The school day will start as normal at 9.00am and finish at 3.30pm. Breakfast club will not be running, although we will review this once we know how many children we have in school. School meals will run as normal, and will be charged at the normal rate. School uniform should be worn as normal.

We will once again be holding Teams Meetings with the children, and the links for these can be found below. Please remember that attendance at these is purely optional. These meetings will start tomorrow, although they may be slightly shorter and less structured than normal.

Reception Children - These will take place at 10.00am on a Tuesday and Thursday and last around 20 minutes.

Year 1 and 2 Children - These will take place at 10.00am on a Monday and Wednesday, again for around 20 minutes.

On a Friday we will hold a meeting at 10.00am for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and we hope that this will be a fun event to end the week.

The link for all of these meetings is Click here to join the meeting

Children in Class 2 (Mrs Radcliffe) will have a daily meeting, starting at 10.15am, lasting for around 45 minutes. The link for this is Click here to join the meeting

Children in Class 3 will have a daily meeting starting at 11.00am, which will last for up to an hour, although we will build into this a comfort break for a few minutes to allow children to have a stretch and move about. The link for this is Click here to join the meeting

Your child’s login details have not changed from before. If you need a reminder as to what they are, please just ask.

Experience has also shown us that communication between home and school will be vital, and we are offering a number of different ways that you can contact us, these include:-

Via e-mail - If you wish to send an e-mail please send it to I will then either respond myself or forward it on to another member of staff. I will endeavour to respond to all messages within 48 hours. If I become ill myself other members of staff will have access to this e-mail address. Other e-mail addresses may not be monitored.

Via Facebook - If you wish to send a private message to our school Facebook Page please do so. Either myself or another member of staff will respond within 48 hours.

Via the Phone - The school phone number (897651) will be working as normal.

Via Text - If you would like to speak to another member of staff please text us on our normal text number 166629, and we will do our best to respond. Again please allow us 48 hours to respond, and bear in mind that some of our staff may become ill themselves or have family members who need their support.

As a school we are aware that we have a number of children with complex needs, many of whom will struggle with the changes in routine and great uncertainty that is taking place. Whilst none of us are experts, all of the staff are here to help, even if it is remotely. If over the next couple of weeks you find yourself struggling and would like some advice, or just somebody to listen to you, please use any of the options outlined above to get in touch. Staff will not judge you, or think any less of you if you ask for some advice. I would ask though that you only use the methods outlined above, and even if you do have a member of staffs personal phone number, or are friends with them on social media that you respect their privacy, as it maybe that they themselves are ill or struggling to cope and don’t feel able to respond immediately.

Finally I would like to thank all of you for your help and support, I know that together we will get through this.

Stay Safe

Mr W Nelson
