It is fantastic to be back in school today, with nearly all of our pupils back with us. The children have all settled back into school very well and already it seems like we never left.
School is now back to our ‘new normal’, with Breakfast Club back up and running from 8.10am, all other children arriving for 9.00am, and everybody going home at 3.30pm.
We will be continuing to ask the children to wash their hands as soon as they arrive, and during the day, and we hope that this, as well as our increased level of cleaning, will help to reduce the number of coughs, colds and upset tummies that we have suffered from in the past.
Children will be coming in and out of the side doors directly from their classrooms. This reduces the number of bodies in the main corridor and will help to give the children a calmer start to their day. Children should no longer be using the main entrance to come in and out of school, and we are asking parents to say good bye to their children at the classroom door, rather than coming in with them. As always staff will be available to help if your child is struggling to say good bye.
For the rest of this term school shoes and P.E. Kits are not needed in school, although it would help greatly if your child wears their P.E. t-shirt on Sports Day, so we know what colour house each child is in.
We are grateful to the Manx Lottery Trust and Jurby Northern Community Initiatives for their sponsorship of a mid morning snack for every child for the rest of this term. We hope that this small gesture will help everyone as they get back on their feet. The snack will be a healthy snack, mainly consisting of fruit, with toast on occasions, and a less healthy treat every Friday.
We are aware that every child’s experience of Home Learning is different and that everybody had their own challenges to contend with. We are not worried how much, or how little work your child did, we know that everybody tried their best in very difficult circumstances. We are asking though if you could send back in the Maths Workbook that we sent home with each child in March. This is simply so we can see if there were any areas that your child struggled with, or if there were any areas that they did particularly well at. We can also then continue to use the book in school and avoid unnecessary waste of resources. If your child did not do any work in their book, please don’t worry, no comment will be made and we fully understand the strain that you were all under.
We have done our best to re-schedule some of the key events that were cancelled, and the new dates can be found overleaf. Those in bold are events where the date or time has changed.
I look forward to seeing you all over the next few days, but in the meantime if you have any questions please just ask.
Mr W Nelson
