Thursday 19th and Friday 20th December

Thursday 19th is our Christmas Party day. The children can either come to school in their party clothes, or get changed at lunch time. Please remember that the children will still be going outside at break and lunchtimes, and so should be wearing suitable clothes and shoes. There will be no children going to Ardwhallan or the MSPCA.

Friday is the last day of term, and our Christmas Jumper day. Children can wear their Christmas jumper in return for a £1 donation which will be passed on to Save the Children. If your child doesn’t have a Christmas jumper, they are welcome to wear non uniform.

On Friday we will be having a ‘fun’ day in school, but are asking the children NOT to bring in any toys or games from home. This is to prevent any upset if parts go missing, or get broken. We have plenty of games for the children to play in school, along with art and craft activities.

New Parents’ Open Morning

On Wednesday 22nd January we are going to be holding an Open Morning for parents whose children are due to join us in September 2020. (Born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016.) The morning will start at 9.15am and last until approximately 10.30am. As part of this I would like to give prospective parents the opportunity to talk to current parents, particularly those who have children in Class 1, so that they can hear first hand about our school. If you are able to play a part in this morning please let Mr Nelson know. Secondly if you know of anybody who has a child who is due to start school in September please invite them to come along. Thank you.

Christmas Fair

Thank you to everybody who supported our Christmas Fair last Friday. We raised over £800. We do have left over some sweets and boxes of mince pies, which are on sale from the school office for just £1 each, on a first come, first served basis.

Christmas Sleigh

Thank you to everybody who has returned tickets for our Christmas Sleigh. If you have not yet returned yours, please can you do so by Monday 16th December. The draw will take place at the end of the Concert on Wednesday 18th December. Since the tickets were sent out we have added some runner up prizes of Wine and Chocolates, as well as the main prize, which has a value of over £400! There is also a prize for the person who has sold the most tickets.

Are you entitled to free school meals, but not claiming them?

We are aware that there are some families that may well be entitled to free school meals, but are not registered for them as their child prefers a packed lunch. What you may not be aware of is that our school staffing and funding is partly influenced by the number of families registered for free school meals, and we may be missing out on some additional funding as our free school meal numbers are lower than they should be. Can I ask if you think you may be eligible for free school meals that you register for them, even if your child has a packed lunch. The general criteria is that you are in receipt of one or more of the following: Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance, Employed Person's Allowance, Income Support

Applications can be made online and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. To find the application form simply Google ‘Isle of Man Free School Meals’, or follow the link from our school website.

Christmas Concert

Our Concert takes place on Wednesday 18th December, starting at 6.30pm. Children need to arrive in school between 6.00pm and 6.15pm, and go straight to their classrooms. Please do not arrive earlier than 6.00pm as school may not be open.

Physical Activities

After Christmas it will be Class 2’s turn to attend Ardwhallan again, and so they will need to ensure that they have appropriate warm and waterproof clothing every Thursday.

Class 1 and Class 3 will be having PE in school, and so they will need to ensure that they have their PE kit in school.

Swimming will continue every Tuesday for children in Class 2 and Class 3.

Parents Survey

Have you completed our survey? We will be closing this on Monday 16th and will share the results with you next week. So far we have had 23 responses, so if you haven’t filled it in please do so. It will only take 2 minutes and will help us know how to improve. You can access it from this link
