As you maybe aware for a number of years we have rewarded children’s good behaviour and hard work with Golden Stepping Stones, with rewards being given for 10, 30 and 60 Golden Steps. (A bar of chocolate for 10 steps, a tea party after 30 and a trip out after 60.) Following consultation with the children in Y5 and Y6 last July we made some changes to this scheme in September. The children still earn Golden Steps for good behaviour, hard work and politeness, but we have introduced a range of rewards that the children can choose from.
Every few weeks we will give the children the opportunity to cash in their points for a reward if they wish, or the can decide to save the points for a bigger reward later on in the year. We hope that these changes will add an extra incentive for all children as they will be able to choose a reward they really want. The first opportunity for the children to cash in their points will take place this Friday.
A summary of the rewards on offer accompanies this letter, although some of the smaller rewards are subject to change depending on what we find on offer. We have updated our behaviour policy to reflect these changes and this can be found on our website under the policies section www.jurby.sch.im
After half term children in Class 3 will be attending Ardwhallan each week, and the children in Class 2 will be having a P.E. Lesson in school. If your child is in Class 2 please can you make sure they have a P.E. kit in school. Children in Class 3 will have their first visit to Ardwhallan on Thursday 7th November, they will need to bring with them warm old clothes, a waterproof coat, hat and gloves, also boots or old trainers that can get muddy. If you have any questions please ask.
Dark Evenings and Bad Weather
The evenings are now starting to get dark and cold and wet days will become the norm. As ever if your child walks to school and wants to wear wellies or other shoes to walk to and from school in that is fine. They can change into their school shoes when they come into school each day. Please can you also ensure that your child brings a coat to school every day, we will still go outside even if it is a little damp!
Finally if your child rides their bike to school they may well need lights as we get closer to December, as well as a reflective jacket and of course a helmet. All of these items can be stored safely in school during the day.
Accompanying this letter is a copy of the new lunch menu, which starts after half term. School meals cost £2.30 a day, £11.50 a week or £80.50 for the half term.
A big congratulations to those children who were part of our Y2/3 Tag Rugby Team last week. The children played 5 games of Tag Rugby and showed great determination and resilience. The Tournament was a fun festival with the aim of introducing the children to the sport. Well done to all our players, and Thank You to Mrs Hope and Miss Hope for coaching the team
