Thursday 20th and Friday 21st December

Thursday 20th is our Christmas Party day. The children can either come to school in their party clothes, or get changed at lunch time. Please remember that the children will still be going outside at break and lunchtimes, and so should be wearing suitable clothes and shoes. There will be no children going to Ardwhallan or the MSPCA.

Friday is the last day of term, and this year we are planning on holding an Elf Day in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. We are asking the children to come to school dressed in red and / or green, or if they really want as a full blown elf! We are asking for donations of £1 which will be passed straight to the Alzheimer’s Society. More details about this event can be found at https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/events-...

On Friday we will be having a ‘fun’ day in school, but are asking the children NOT to bring in any toys or games from home. This is to prevent any upset if parts go missing, or get broken. We have plenty of games for the children to play in school, along with art and craft activities.

New Parents’ Open Morning

On Wednesday 23rd January we are going to be holding an Open Morning for parents whose children are due to join us in September 2019. (Born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015.) The morning will start at 9.15am and last until approximately 10.30am. As part of this I would like to give prospective parents the opportunity to talk to current parents, particularly those who have children in Class 1, so that they can hear first hand about our school. If you are able to play a part in this morning please let Mr Nelson know. Secondly if you know of anybody who has a child who is due to start school in September please invite them to come along. Thank you.

Christmas Fair

Thank you to everybody who supported our Christmas Fair last Friday. We raised over £700. We do have left over some sweets and boxes of mince pies, which are on sale from the school office for just £1 each, on a first come, first served basis.

Christmas Sleigh

Thank you to everybody who has returned tickets for our Christmas Sleigh. If you have not yet returned yours, please can you do so by Monday 17th December. The draw will take place at the end of the Concert on Wednesday 19th December. Since the tickets were sent out we have added some runner up prizes of Wine and Chocolates, as well as the main prize, which has a value of over £500!

Are you entitled to free school meals, but not claiming them?

We are aware that there are some families that may well be entitled to free school meals, but are not registered for them as their child prefers a packed lunch. What you may not be aware of is that our school staffing and funding is partly influenced by the number of families registered for free school meals, and we may be missing out on some additional funding as our free school meal numbers are lower than they should be. Can I ask if you think you may be eligible for free school meals that you register for them, even if your child has a packed lunch. The general criteria is that you are in receipt of one or more of the following: Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance, Employed Person's Allowance, Income Support

Applications can be made online and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. The application form can be found at https://www.gov.im/categories/education-training-a...

Christmas Concert

Our Concert takes place on Wednesday 19th December, starting at 6.30pm. Children need to arrive in school between 6.00pm and 6.15pm, and go straight to their classrooms. Please do not arrive earlier than 6.00pm as school may not be open.

Physical Activities

After Christmas it will be Class 3’s turn to attend Ardwhallan again, and so they will need to ensure that they have appropriate warm and waterproof clothing every Thursday.

Class 1 and Class 2 will be having PE in school, and so they will need to ensure that they have their PE kit in school.

Swimming will continue every Tuesday for children in Class 2 and Class 3.

Breakfast Club

Please note that Breakfast Club does not start until 8.10am. Please don’t bring your children earlier than this as we are often not ready. The Club is open to all pupils and runs on a drop in basis, there is no need to book in advance. It costs 80p per day.

If your child is not attending Breakfast Club they should not be inside the school building until the bell goes at 9.00am as they will not be included on the Breakfast Club register and should there be a fire we would not know that they were in the building.

Thank You.

Lunch for next half term will be £67.50.

Milk for next Half term will be £5.70

Cheques for Lunch and Milk should be made payable to ‘IOM Government’

Snack and Cookery for Class 1 will be £9 and cheques should be made payable to Jurby School
