Welcome back

I would like to say a big welcome to all the new pupils who have joined us today, and welcome back to all the other children. It was great to see all their happy smiling faces in the playground this morning, and so many children looking very smart in their new school uniform.

Classes

This year we have 3 classes in school again and have decided to keep the same names as last year.

The Foxes - Children in Year 5 and 6, who will be taught by Mrs Cranmer. (19 children)

The Owls - Children in Year 3 and 4, who will be taught by Mrs Radcliffe. (20 children)

The Koalas - Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 children, taught by Miss Lace and Mrs Hope (20 children).

Mrs Horisk will be working in school on a Tuesday and Wednesday until Christmas.

P.E. Swimming and Ardwhallan

This year P.E. will be taught by the class teachers rather than the MSR Coaches, and therefore there will NOT be a before School Sports Club. Instead we will be running our own sports club at Lunchtime. Please can you make sure that your child has their P.E. Kit in school every day. (House coloured t-shirt, shorts, socks and pumps or trainers.) We will also be continuing with our Mile a Day initiative, on the field when it is dry and on the Parade Ground when the field is wet and muddy. Please can you make sure your child has suitable shoes to change into for this.

This half term Mrs Cranmer’s class will be going to Ardwhallan on a Thursday afternoon. They will need to bring with them suitable clothes to change into at lunchtime. Depending on the weather they may continue with some water sports activities, so will need to bring with them a towel and swimming costume as well as the normal outdoor clothes, including a warm waterproof coat. Please can you make sure that they have a waterproof coat. They will be going to and from Ardwhallan in a minibus and should return to school between 3.45pm and 4.00pm.

Swimming starts on Tuesday for children in Mrs Radcliffe’s and Mrs Cranmer’s Classes. Children with long hair, or a fringe that is at eye level or below will need a swimming hat. Whilst we understand that occasionally this may be forgotten we had a number of pupils last year that never had a hat. Please can you ensure that if your child needs a hat they have one with them.

Junk

The children love playing with our ‘junk’, but some of it is reaching the end of its life. If anybody has any old drain pipes, plastic tubes, smooth pieces of timber, ground sheets, large plastic barrels, foam mats etc which they no longer have need of, the children would love to have them. They will happily play with most items, but of course anything that has sharp edges, or is particularly heavy we can’t use. Please just drop them off when you are passing.

Dinner and Milk

If your child would like to have Milk this term please ensure that Mrs Patterson has received payment of £6.65 by 9.30am on Friday. If we do not receive payment milk will not be ordered for your child.

School lunches are £2.25 a day, £11.25 a week or £85.50 for the half term. If you are eligible for free school meals please make note that you need to re-apply each September and any meals your child has before the application is approved you will need to pay for. It is NOT back dated. Cheques for milk and lunch should be made payable to IOM Government.

Children in Class 1 also need to pay £11.40 to cover the half term’s snack and cookery. Cheques should be made payable to Jurby School.

Dates for the Year

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of our key dates for the year. Please take a few minutes over the next day or two to study them and put them into your diaries etc so that you don’t miss any important events.

Dates for The Year 2018/19

Before School

Over the last few months we have become aware of more and more children (and adults) coming into school before the bell rings at 9.00am to drop off bags and coats. Should there be a fire we will not have an accurate record of who was in the building. Therefore can we please ask that, unless they are attending breakfast club where we take an attendance register, children do not come into school before 9.00am, but wait in the playground, with their coat and bags. Adults are still welcome to come into the office to see Mrs Patterson, and class teachers will be in the playground if you need to speak to them. Thank you for your help with this.

Is your child’s jumper named?

We can only return school uniform to you if it is named. A quick check this morning showed that around 50% of jumpers were either un-named or the name was so faint we could not read it. Please make sure your child’s uniform is named.
