World Book Day 2018

On Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd March we will be holding a series of activities to celebrate World Book Day. This year we are basing our activities around Hans Christian Anderson’s Traditional Tales and the children will be working in their houses to complete three different challenges, one of which will focus on re-telling the stories, an art activity and a cookery challenge.

On the Friday we will also be having a fancy dress parade. The children can come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book, and should if possible bring a copy of that book with them. (This can be a character from a Traditional Tale but does not need to be.)

On Thursday afternoon Class 2 will be going to Ardwhallan as usual, and Class 1 and Class 3 will be having their normal PE lesson.

Dear Parent/Guardian

We can now announce that our library will be opening on 9th March. Parents are invited to come and have a look at the library from 3:00pm onwards.

We would like the children to design a poster for the opening on the library; the prize for winning the poster competition will be an Easter egg and a storybook.
The poster needs to be on A4 plain paper, drawn using felts, crayons or pencils and include:

• Date (9th March)
• Time (3pm onwards)
• Location (Jurby School)

The children can be as creative as they would like and include anything else they may feel they would need for a library-opening poster.

The library will be accessible for members of the whole community and we will be coming up with a timetable in the near future, so you will know when the library is available.

To make the library a success within the community we would like to ask for adult volunteers.
Here are some of the ways in which you could help:
• We need a team to dedicate a short amount of time every week to keep the library organised.
• We would also appreciate any volunteers that may like to come and read to the children or help the children choose new books.

If you feel that this would be something that you are interested in, please speak to any member of staff.

We would like to thank you in advance for any help or support you can offer.
