Next Friday (13th) is Children in Need, and we have decided that to mark the day we will take the children on a walk, as one of the themes this year is ‘Countryfile Ramble 2020’. We have managed to gain permission for the school to walk around the Jurby Airfield, which whilst all the children have seen it, very few of them have actually had the opportunity to visit and walk around. Our aim is to walk from school, and then around the race track before we return to school. We estimate the total distance to be around 3 miles. Depending on weather and enthusiasm the older children will have the opportunity to complete more than one lap of the race track if they wish.

In the afternoon we will then celebrate our achievement with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. In order for this to be a success we will of course need the children to bring a Teddy in to school to join them. We will make sure that these are kept safe and sound during the day until it is time for them to join in with their part of the day.

The children will need to come to school next Friday wearing clothes and shoes that are suitable for walking, including a warm and waterproof coat. They do not need to wear school uniform. As the colour of Children In Need is yellow, if they have a yellow t-shirt it could be worn to add to the fun of the day, but please do not buy a yellow top just for this one day.

Lunch arrangements will be unchanged for the day, as we will be eating our lunch in school at the normal time, but please make sure that your child has a drinks bottle with them that they can take on the walk.

If any parents or friends of the school would like to join us you will be most welcome. We aim to leave school at 9.30am, and hope to be back in school by 11.30am.

We are aware that for many people this year money is very tight, and don’t feel that it is appropriate to make this a sponsored event as it can create extra pressure on families and friends to donate. We will however have a collection bucket in the school office for a few days after the event and if anybody would like to make a donation to Children in Need we will pass these on.
